The Reklaws, a brother and sister country duo from Ontario, Canada, brought the audience close to tears on America’s Got Talent on Tuesday, June 11. They presented a heartfelt performance of an original song they wrote, called “People Don’t Talk About”, dedicated to their late mother, to help spread awareness to mental health. The judges voted four yeses, while the sibling duo hugged each other with happy tears.
In the quarterfinals, The Reklaws decided to change things up by performing an upbeat original song titled “Long Live the Night”.
Despite their energetic effort, The Reklaws did not receive enough votes to make it into the semi final round.
Background
Before their performance, the siblings shared that they grew up in a town called Kirkwall in Ontario, Canada on the Yee-Haw Adventure Farm. Stuart revealed that their mother, who died in 2022, named the band The Reklaws, their last name spelled backward. “We wanted it to be a song specifically about our mom. We lost our mom to mental health, and that shook up our world,” said Jenna in the pre-audition interview on AGT Series 19.
The Reklaws have been performing officially as a vocal duo for more than 10 years, forming their act in 2012. Together, Stuart and Jenna have released three albums Freshman Year, Sophomore Slump, and Good Ol’ Days along with various singles and other releases.

The siblings grew up with four other siblings and their parents on a sprawling farm. Stuart recalled, “Hundreds of people would just come have fun,” before heading onstage with Jenna. The farm included a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, and pig races. Ultimately, the farm setting is what originated the siblings’ music potential as he played banjo and Jenna sang.

Audition
After they shared their backstory with the world, The Reklaws stepped into the stage. They declared they are going to present an original song called “People Don’t Talk About”, written by them sharing the importance of mental well-being. They took turns singing heart-touching lyrics that goes as grew up playin’ house / In a house that was broke / I wish we talked it out / Now I don’t know why—and both joining on the chorus together: When it’s 2 am you’re talking to yourself again / You’re digging a hole … People don’t talk about / Trying to be yourself / But feeling like you’re someone else.
Howie Mandel was the first judge to praise the duo after the performance.
“Your singing and your writing [are] impeccable, I usually don’t respond to lyrics like I’m responding to this. I’ve been very open and my soapbox is mental health and there’s a stigma attached.
“The thing that allows me to survive is the ability to talk about it. This song is an important song and I think you’re going to go a long way in this competition.””

Quarter-Finals
In the quarterfinals, the Reklaws decided to switch things up with an upbeat performance of their original song “Long Live the Night” . The duo aimed to get the crowd on their feet with their energetic performance.
Sofia Vergara praised their willingness to perform original songs, while Heidi Klum admired how they’ve elevated their game throughout their career.
Simon Cowell acknowledged their talent but felt they chose a “midway song” rather than a show-stopping hit. Howie Mandel expressed that he preferred their first performance over this one.
Despite their effort and talent, The Reklaws did not receive enough votes to reach the top 5 resulting in their elimination from the competition.
