While everyone has their own challenges to deal with when it comes to ailments, however, some are more common than others.

ENT problems that usually plague people include:

Strep Throat

Strep throat is a condition that is more common in children ages 5-15. It is caused by bacteria. It leads to sore throat alongside fever, fatigue, presence of white spots on the tonsils, swollen lymph nodes, enlarged tonsils. People also have a hard time swallowing in this condition.

Since the condition is contagious, it can be passed easily from one person to another. It is important to seek early treatment for strep throat, as the bacteria can spread the infection to the sinuses and the ears.

Treatment of strep throat is a composite of taking antibiotics. Since the body gets feverish due to infection, it is also a good practice to take plenty of fluids and a good, soft diet to replenish energy levels.

Sinuses are hollow cavities in the nose and head. They play an important role in fluid draining. But these cavities can become infected, and since this state is accompanied with swelling and inflammation, the infection becomes trapped in the cavity.

Symptoms of sinusitis include a runny nose since the drainage is negatively affected. It also leads to sore throat, coughing, headaches, fever, facial pain, toothache and bad breath.

Sleep apnea

Another condition of the ENT that is serious yet common is sleep apnea. In this condition, the person stops breathing as they sleep.

A type of sleep apnea, OSA –obstructive sleep apnea – occurs when the muscles of the throat become relaxed during sleep, due to which, the pathway for air becomes constricted. At one point, the person stops breathing, and their body is then jolted awake.

Symptoms of sleep apnea include poor sleep, frequently waking up in the night, daytime sleepiness. Moreover, due to disrupted sleep, people are unable to wake up fresh. Lack of quality shuteye also then leads to foul mood, depression, and mood swings as well in some cases.

Sleep apnea also leads to morning headaches. Many people also complain of dry throat when they wake up.

However, that is not all there is to the impact of sleep apnea. OSA has been linked to chronic health conditions like high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, stroke and even heart failure.

Ear Infections

Common, especially amongst infants and children, are the pesky ear infections. This condition results when the eustachian tube comes clogged, on account of swelling or fluid. It then allows bacteria and similar pathogens to enter the canal and cause an infection.
